Baseball Tale
While playing baseball, you can’t beat the skill of hitting. I’d love to have the ability to teach my son to do that, but there’s just not that much out there for a young kid his age.
Here’s the second video from The K’s, and it’s my favorite part so far. In addition to the basic fundamentals of how to stand on a baseball bat, and how to swing, there are some great ways to hit from an angle to keep hitters off balance and off base.
A player needs to be able to learn and recognize the different areas of the strike zone, and it’s a skill he should also have to be able to change his timing on pitches to keep them off the plate.
How are the hitters looking when you work out with them?
I work out with hitters in batting cages on a regular basis. I’m always the first on the field, and the guys just get along. I’ve watched the video of Alex Gordon over the years, and what stands out the most for me is he looks like an old-school first baseman with his hands up at the plate. Speaking of baseman, it terms of betting on your favorite baseball team you gotta go online to do that and double down on your favorite team.
That’s what I try to convey to them, that every hitter has a different swing and the best hitters have different ways to hit the ball. With the extra time they have to spend in the cage, is it a challenge to become more comfortable with what the other guy does and learn from it?
For me, it’s important to have to have the confidence to hit against guys who are really good and be able to hit my spots.
PITCHER 2: What does your hitting coach have to say about it?
GARY GLOVER: He just told me to put my head down and go to the ball. I told him he should leave it alone and let me go up there. He said he doesn’t expect me to hit home runs off of him. I try to hit the ball on the ground with a good amount of movement on it so you don’t have to get too big for the ball to go over you.
Also, I don’t want to get hit because I hit a lot of guys. If I see a guy go up there and he swings at the ball, I’m just going to swing at that pitch and take it.
PITCHER 2: Is it just hitting it, or are you also looking for the ball to go over you and pull it on the run?
GARY GLOVER: It’s all about hitting it. You’re going to have to swing at the ball, and I’m going to swing at the ball.
PITCHER 2: But in a situation like that, with two strikes, you don’t really want to swing at the ball. You just want to get the pitch down and over you.
GARY GLOVER: That’s what I like to do, too. I’m trying to throw as hard as I can at the plate to get the ball over the catcher and pull it over to the other team. It’s really what we try to do as a team.
PITCHER 2: But there’s no guarantee that the ball’s going to go over you.
GARY GLOVER: Well, there’s no guarantee that a pitch’s going to hit you.
PITCHER 2: I guess the question is are you concerned about it?
GARY GLOVER: Oh, yeah.
PITCHER 2: Is there something you can do about it?
